Press ReleaseContact: FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE Pefect Play Fields & Links® Makes Rock Base Donation to University of Missouri Turfgrass Program Columbia, Missouri – September, 2008– In order to help educate and professionalize the next generation of specialists in the field of turf management, a rock base donation has been made by Perfect Play Fields & Links® to the University of Missouri Turfgrass Program.We spoke with Turfgrass Specialist Brad Fresenburg from the University of Missouri about the donation made by Perfect Play Fields & Links®. “(Perfect Play President) Mike (Munie) and our program have a long standing association. When I approached Mike to help, he was immediately responsive. Actually, the rock base is the third project here that he’s helped us out with. About eight or nine years back, he graded a full sized baseball infield for us. To date, we’re the only program in the U.S. with a full-sized field. Then a few years ago, he provided us with a mini-soccer field for research.” When asked to explain to the lay person what exactly a rock base is, Fresenburg instructed, “A rock base, which is really a gravel bed, is a drainage system that incorporates flat drains in the drain bed. It allows water to drain through gravel rapidly, removing water from the playing field at a faster pace. Perfect Play donated the time and the equipment to excavate the gravel bed, as well as doing the final laser grade work. We had the barriers and drain work already in place. It was a significant and valuable donation to our program.” Regarding the health and bacteria concerns that have arisen surrounding synthetic playing fields, Fresenburg explained, “With the help of another company, we will install a synthetic field on top of the rock base. This will allow us to study the possible growth of bacteria in synthetic fields.
